Studio News - The Maker Issue

I have devoted more than ten years to the practice of making leather goods. This passion is fueled by my fascination with the vessels that carry our personal articles through life. Bags become companions and beasts of burden as they transport work, play and escape. My creations reveal this relationship through the finishes I have developed with vegetable tanned leather. They react to the lifestyle of their owners; the longer they journey together, the more personalized the bags become.

The history is in the leather...the story is in the bag.

Studio News - The Colour Issue

Yellow! The first solid colour bag we have ever made, and it’s by request. Ralph Escamillan is a collaborator and dear friend of the Fiveleft team, and he always has awesome crazy ideas! (that’s why we love him)

Last year he was elemental in developing the fashion film we put together. He wrangled the dancers, orchestrated the movement and even danced in the film. He also featured in our fashion show for the launch of elleven. So if anyone deserves an awesome custom bag that has only one solid colour, it is him. Thanks Ralph for being so awesome and getting involved with our projects. This yellow beauty will be done soon!

Studio News - Happy Canada Day!

As Canada prepares to turn 150 I think about how I came to this country. I came from the United States to attend Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. The easy going vibe and more laid back politics felt good, but what really stole my heart was the vastness of this land. I wanted to stay, so planned a course load of the minimum required credits to stretch my student visa for a couple years, but before that ran out I fell in love with a girl from Nova Scotia. I have been here for 22 years now, and between raising a family, growing the Fiveleft brand we try to explore as much of this magical country as we can.
